Celebrate Diversity Month
April is Celebrate Diversity Month, a time to recognize and appreciate diverse backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. This month celebrates all diversity: race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, faith, age, ability, and more. Started by two U.S. diversity consulting firms in 2004, Celebrate Diversity Month celebrates multiculturalism and aims to deepen understanding across cultures to ensure a better world.
Autism Acceptance Month
Autism Acceptance month, previously Autism Awareness Month was first held in April 1970 by the National Autism Society with the goal of creating awareness and educating the public on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The name changed in 2021 due to an increasing need for acceptance of individuals living with ASD, over awareness, with the goal of encouraging people to accept and include those with autism in their daily activities and community.
Day of Silence
Day of Silence is a student-driven day of silent activism focused on reclaiming the void caused by the systematic erasure and silencing of voices in the LGBTQIA+ community in schools and colleges nationwide. This day-long observance is concluded with a Breaking the Silence event where students, educators, and community members tell their stories and develop strategies to drive impactful change. Nationally recognized, it occurs annually, usually on the second Friday of April, but can vary.
